This nifty gadget has been shaking up the coffee scene with its sleek design and fast, flavorful brewing speed. The Aeropress was initially designed over 50 years ago to eradicate coffee snobbery and give the masses great coffee without all the fuss. It's hailed by coffee fanatics, lightweight backpackers, and traveling business professionals alike for its simplicity, size, and ease of making a great cup of coffee. It can even make coffee similar to espresso for your favorite cafe-style drinks.
The Aeropress coffee brew guide demonstrates how it combines the technique of the French press, the pressure of a typical espresso machine, and the pouring style of the pour over for a truly one-of-a-kind cup of coffee. This will typically allow you to taste the more tea-like, lighter notes in your coffee, so try it out with our Ethiopian and Colombian beans!
The Tools
An Aeropress: these can be found online and in local stores in various sizes and colors, always sold under the Aeropress brand
Finely ground coffee: the better the bean, the better the brew
Filter papers: these usually come with the Aeropress kit, you can buy them separately, or cut regular coffee filters into small circles
Boiling water: since coffee is 99% water, opt for filtered water
A stirrer or spoon
Food scale
Your favorite mug
The How-To
Boil your water to 95 degrees C (208F). You'll need about 250ml, slightly cooler than boiling point.
Insert a filter paper into the Aeropress cap and rinse it with hot water.
Add one scoop (about 16-18g) of finely ground coffee to the Aeropress.
Pour your hot water into the Aeropress up to the '4' mark and stir for around 10 seconds.
Wait for 30 seconds to let the coffee *bloom.
Stir again, then attach the cap and filter, flip it onto your mug, and press down slowly.
Enjoy!
The Aeropress is your ticket to a quick, quality cup of coffee. Whether you're an impatient caffeine craver or a coffee connoisseur, the Aeropress has got you covered. Now go forth, brew, and bask in the glory of your barista-level skills!
*A coffee bloom refers to the quick bubbling up of carbon dioxide from inside the coffee grounds as water begins to permeate it.
